Dr. David Jackson Shares His Thoughts on a Recent Study Performed in Conjunction With Hera Women’s Health and Presented in London.
High Risk Pregnancy Center is excited to share one of Dr. Jackson’s latest research studies that takes a thorough look into the assessment and outcomes of twin gestation and its tie to preterm delivery.
As a specialist in high-risk neonatal and maternal fetal medicine, Dr. Jackson shares his expert advice on HRPC, being known as an international leader in research through the lens of identifying patients with twins at risk for preterm delivery before they have signs and symptoms of preterm labor.
Throughout this compelling study, Dr. Jackson worked alongside Hera Women’s Health to identify the tie between cervical length and preterm pregnancy risk as it pertains specifically to twin gestation. Through his thoughtful insight on actionable and measurable ways to bridge the gap between singleton and multiple pregnancies, he could identify the disparities in cervical length as it correlates to an increased risk of preterm birth.
We are grateful that HRPC and Dr. Jackson spearheaded this research and that his findings were bestowed upon the Nevada community and the world with one goal: to reduce preterm labor, especially in mothers carrying multiples.
“Multiple Gestation and Cervical Shortening: Serial Transvaginal Cervical Length (TVCL) Must Begin at 16 Weeks” in Summary
In a recently released abstract, HRPC and Hera Women’s Health shared their insight and results from a years-long research project focused on the tie between transvaginal cervical length and preterm delivery risk in women carrying twins.
As leaders in research related to twin gestation and preterm delivery, and backed by years of proven research, they advocate for performing an early ultrasound of the mother’s cervix every 2 weeks between 16 and 24 weeks to identify patients at risk for preterm delivery.
In this research study, it has been identified that progesterone and cerclage therapies may be effective in preventing preterm birth.
HRPC has conducted patient-centric research with significant numbers of patients over several years, which has yet to be matched. According to Dr. Jackson, “No other practice in Nevada has published this amount of data related to the risk of preterm delivery in twin gestation.”
When it comes to preterm delivery, “it’s not enough for the doctors to identify who’s at risk. We want to know what we can do to prevent it,” says Dr. Jackson, and this research is a big step in the right direction.
Hera Women’s Health values clinical research as an added value and supports Dr. Jackson’s continued research. He treasures their partnership on this topic because “they value clinical research that helps the patient,” which is one of the essential facets of advancing maternal fetal medicine in the long run.
