Mental Health During COVID

Maintaining your mental health is an important part of everyday life but there are times when it should become a crucial focus. If you are pregnant or parenting during a time of global change, keeping a healthy mind should be high on your priority list.

Below are 5 tips on keeping your mental health in good shape during these times, provided by Dr. Farzad Kamyar and Dr. Manijeh Kamyar.

  1. Get enough sleep
Sleep is an overall vital part of staying healthy but it also reduces stress, improves memory, and improves focus
  2. Eat nutritious meals and drink plenty of fluids
Eating healthy and staying hydrated will support our body and mind’s recovery from pregnancy, delivery, and the daily grind of taking care of a child.
  3. Stay active
Exercise is an important part of keeping our body healthy but it can also greatly reduce anxiety, depression, and can improve self-esteem.
  4. Stay in touch
As social beings, keeping in virtual contact with close friends and family can help us to stay feeling connected during distant times.
  5. Practice mindfulness
Practicing meditation or breathing exercises has been proven to increase patience, self-awareness, and reduce stress.

“At its essence, mindfulness is being present. More specifically, it means focusing your attention on one’s feelings, staying aware and conscious of your experiences. Mindfulness has been shown to effectively relieve stress in addition to having a positive effect on the immune system, something we can all use during the pandemic.”
