Meet S. Lindsay Wood, MD
My medical career began to take shape when I was five years old. After losing my grandfather to cancer, I decided to become a doctor. For the longest time, I thought I’d be a pediatrician, but in medical school during my OB rotation, I was completely captivated by welcoming life into the world. The first delivery I observed was a life changing moment for me.
I was also fascinated by embryology, and when I began working with ultrasound, it felt like a direct clinical translation; seeing the intricacies of human development unfold before my eyes. During my OB/GYN residency, I became drawn to the moms and babies who were going through difficult times. Probably because I’m no stranger to hard times myself. In my first year of medical school, I was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition that required open-heart surgery. A skilled and compassionate cardiothoracic surgeon saved my life and gave me a unique perspective on the patient-physician relationship. I not only learned first-hand how vulnerable and afraid patients can be in those moments. The experience inspired me to make special connections patients and a particular interest in congenital heart disease.
I enjoy talking with patients … I want get to know you. Skill, training and experience are important, but so are support and compassion. I realize every woman needs something different from our relationship, but ultimately, we share the same goal of a healthy outcome for mom and baby.
